Hello! Recently in job searching I noticed that some applications requested writing samples specifically about flavor text. You know, the background stuff you find that helps pull a world together into a cohesive… world.
That. THAT. That is what I love to do, and what I want to do as a career. I want to inject the beautiful video game cakes with delicious cream filling. And so I thought about it a bit and decided on a project I can do to help me practice and prove my skills when it comes to doing that kind of thing. I took this little, kind of dying mobile game that I really love and poured a lot of time into. It’s called Shop Heroes, check it out if your looking for a fun mobile game time sink. In the game you own an item shop in a fantasy world. You craft items, unlock heroes to come into your shop to buy, and send those heroes out on quests to get better and rarer materials. Picking the game up again recently, I noticed that none of the items have any descriptions! Not really a necessary thing for this game, but it would probably add some neat flavor to it, and so I decided to start a little project making descriptions for all the items in the game. It’s been a blast, and an interesting challenge in some cases, but I have a lot now. I underestimated the number of items a bit, and it’s quickly turning into like a many paged document, so I’m gonna start uploading those, maybe two at a time? The project is still in progress, I probably have a little more than half left to go, so you’ll be seeing some uploads about item descriptions going up for the next while. If that’s your kind of thing, enjoy! But I also realize without context it may not make for the most fascinating read. So yeah, there’s the explanation of what I’m currently doing.
